At one time or the other, while working on your WordPress website, you might find yourself in a position where you need to find a WordPress Category ID. Depending on the level of your familiarity with WordPress, one might find that they don’t know where to look to get the id of a given category. If you find yourself in a similar situation, this is a simple step by step guide on how to get category id in wordpress.

Finding The WordPress Category ID

1. Login to your WordPress admin panel:

The first step in identifying a WordPress category id is to access your WordPress admin. You can do this by using the URL below:

http://yourwebsiteurl.com/wp-admin

Replace yourwebsiteurl.com with the actual link to your website url. You will be prompted to insert your credentials in a form and if everything is okay, you will be directed to your WordPress admin panel.

2. Get category list in WordPress:

Once you are logged in to your website backend, you will see the WordPress backend menu on the lefthand side. Navigate to Posts Menu, hover (put your mouse over this menu item), a submenu will appear, click on categories.

Navigation: WordPress Admin > Posts > Categories

3. Identify and copy the WordPress category id:

Now that you have been able to successfully identify the category id (tag_ID=45 in above screenshot, 45 is our category id) and copied this link to a notepad (as shown in step 4 in the image above), you should have a url similar to the one below:

https://www.fixmeplease.com/wp-admin/term.php?taxonomy=category&tag_ID=45&post_type=post&wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2Fedit-tags.php%3Ftaxonomy%3Dcategory

Copy the value of tag_ID= and you have found the WordPress category ID you were looking for.  In our example above our WordPress category id is 45.

Repeat this process with all the categories as desired.

What Next after Copying The WordPress Category ID URL

You have now successfully learnt how to find the category ID in wordpress, you can now use the ID to filter your posts or any other task.
